Camp Write Along...yayyyyy!

Next week is Camp Write Along.  We are all very excited about the fun activities we will do next week.  (the kid's fave part is the yummy snacks!) Our STAAR Writing Test is a month away.  :((  Of course, we have taught all the skills, but it is still very stressful to think about this wonderful state test!  So, next week we are going to do lots of review AND write a narrative and an expository paper.  Yesterday, the kiddos were assigned a snack food to bring.  Please send all the snacks/paper goods this week.  Also, I keep forgetting to tell them that they can bring a pillow and blanket to keep at school all week!!  They will be happy that while writing they can lie on the floor.

We hope you will be able to join us on Friday night for book fair shopping plus our fun rodeo activities!!

This weekend will be a great time to shop for/create your child's costume for the Living Museum.  I am looking forward to seeing all the Famous Texans next Thursday night!

4th Grade Living Museum

Hello parents!
Today your child started researching a famous Texan.  The famous Texan could be somebody that was born in Texas or an historical figure who is important to Texas history. Please ask your child who they are researching. Your child will receive 2 fuzzies if you email me by Thursday morning with the name of the Texan your child is researching. (I really am trying to find out how many parents actually are reading the blog!!) On Thursday, March 8th at 6:00 pm we are having our 4th grade Living Museum.  Your child will be dressing up as their famous Texan and bringing any helpful props as well.  For example, one 4th grader researched Lance Armstrong last year and came to the Living Museum dressed in bicycle riding gear and even brought her bicycle!  The students will be memorizing a few short facts about their person as well to recite.  So, mark your calendars for March 8th, and brainstorm with your child about a costume.
Also, in March will be our Rodeo Night.  On March 2nd, please join us for food, activities, an auction, and other fun events.  This event is taking place of our spring carnival.  Some information came home today in the Dolphin Folder.
Speaking of the Dolphin folder, PLEASE go through the folder each week.  Many students are coming back to school with all of their graded papers in the folder.  Parents should be going over the graded papers with the child.
Our Pennies for Patients money is due this Friday.  We are fortunate to have healthy children and it is always a great thing to help others.  So, please send in lots of spare change.  Please read the "hot pink" flyer that came home today.
We are almost finished reading our novel, Maniac Magee.  We will be making a project at the end of the book.  Each student will need to bring a piece of white poster board this week.
Have a marvelous week !!

This quote made me laugh because it describes me perfectly!   Anybody else....??  :))

Minute to win it

We were playing a game where we had to suck in as much m&ms as possible with a straw and put them on a paper heart. Alyssa and Mackenzie S. were the winners. By Zuzi.

Valentine Party

Most everyone has sent in their dollar for the party. Thank you! Please have your child make a Valentine card for everyone in the class. I don't want anyone to feel left out! Students may bring in their Valentines on Monday.

We are studying weather in science. Please help your child with the weather chart that is to be filled out this week for homework. Most of the items need to be filled in...I don't think we will be having any "wind chill" factor!

Also, we are in competition with the other classes in the Pennies for Patients fundraiser. Several students have brought in lots and lots of change and even some dollar bills. Keep collecting! It's for a very good cause, plus the class that earns the most $$ will win some delicious food from Olive Garden. I loooove me some Olive Garden breadsticks and salad--yummm.

In Monday's Dolphin folder, we sent home a flyer with an envelope attached regarding our Western night on March 2nd. Please order your tickets for this fun filled night. We will not be having a spring carnival this year, the western night will occur instead.

I will not be at school tomorrow. I will be attending the Texas Classroom Teacher's Convention at the Galleria. I'm looking forward to learning some new teaching ideas. Plus, we get to stay at the Westin Galleria...it's like living at the MALL. Can you imagine the fun!?

Don't forget that next Friday students will be released at 11:30. Then there is a student holiday on the 20th. What a great looong weekend they will get. I'm taking two technology staff development classes on the 20th. I just know I'm going to learn some activities the kids will love.

Have a fabulous day and a wonderful weekend!!

Cloud finder

Every morning we go outside with our cloud finder to identify what type of clouds are in the sky. We use the cloud type to predict what kind of weather we will have in the afternoon. By Brock
