Student Treasures

Just when the kids thought we were done with writing...(YAY, the STAAR writing is over!) I make them write some more.  But this is actually fun writing.  The kids are writing a story about what they think their life will be like when they grow up.  We started brainstorming today about things that adults get to do that kids don't.  (drive, get married, buy a house, pay bills! )  The kids will type their story and illustrate it.  We will be making a class book and ordering the books from Student Treasures.   I will send home the flyers on Monday.  Also on Monday I will forward you an email with a $2 off coupon from the Student Treasures company.  Parents are not obligated to purchase a book, although it makes a wonderful keepsake.  (I still have my daughter's student treasures books from when she was in elementary school!)  Even if you don't want to purchase the class book, I will still need you to return the flyer...just check the box for "no".
Also on Monday information about Math-A-Thon will be coming home.  All monies raised for Math-A-Thon will be sent to St. Jude's Children's hospital.  This is an optional program, but I encourage all students to participate.  First, because I believe that we should all do some type of "service work" for others.  All of your children are fortunate to be healthy, so raising money to help children with cancer is such a worthy cause.  Second, everyone can use a little more math practice!
Report cards were sent home today.  Please sign the envelope and return the envelope and sticker card by Monday.
Have a fabulous Friday and wonderful weekend!!

Living Museum Pictures, STAAR test

We had a very successful at Camp Write Along.  I think the kids enjoyed the snacks most of all!  I can't believe that I didn't take any pictures.  :((  Anyway, we are still preparing for our STAAR Writing tests next Tuesday and Wednesday.  Not only will the students have to write compositions, but also revise and edit several passages.  On these 2 days, please do not schedule any doctor appointments nor plan to come to eat lunch with your child.  Our lunch time will probably change due to the tests.  I would like for you to write a note of encouragement to your child for next week.  Please write some sweet words on a piece of paper no bigger than an index card to your child and send it in a regular envelope to me.  You can decorate the note as well if you wish.  I will have the notes on their desk next Tuesday when they enter the room, so I want it to be a SURPRISE! The kids are going to be super nervous about the tests, and I am hoping that some encouraging words from Mom and Dad will make them smile and be less stressed! (Even if they beg and plead, do not tell them what is in the envelope!!!)
Say "cheese!" Spring pictures are this Friday. Students will be able to wear clothes of their choice.
Our Living Museum was a huge success! I hope that the kids enjoyed the evening. It was fabulous seeing the creativity of the costumes. I hope that all the parents enjoyed learning about the many famous Texans.
