Yummm yummm ~ ~ Chick Fil-A

Please join us on Thursday evening at Chick Fil- A! If you drive through, please give the worker my name. If you dine in, please do the same and look for a fourth grade teacher. Students will receive a homework pass for dining (or driving through) and showing their beautiful face to one of the teachers. Woo-hoo for homework passes! Also, don't forget to drop some change in our 4th grade tip jar. :o)

On a more serious note regarding homework. This is just a reminder that homework should be done AT HOME. If a student does not have his/her homework, The student will receive a homework mark and the completed assignment needs to be brought back to school the next day. If it is not brought back the next day, the student will receive another mark for not having the homework. Every day that the assignment is not turned in will result in a mark on their chart. Did you know that in middle and high school GRADES are taken on homework? Your child should be getting in the habit of doing and returning his/her homework while still in elementary school.

Please mark your calendar for March 8th. We will have our very own fourth grade living museum! Students will be choosing a famous Texan to research and will dress up as that person for the living museum. More details to come.

Did you know that your child looooves warm fuzzies? Ask your sweet little one about the fuzzies. Tell your child to come and whisper "warm fuzzy" to me on Wednesday morning and he/she will receive 2 fuzzies. They can't tell their friends to whisper it to me...that would be cheating...;))

I hope you all have a fantastic week. Hope to see you on Thursday. Mrs. Johnson and I will be
at Chick Fil-A from 4-5.

Day of drumming

In specials today, we learned about different rhythms to play on the drums . One of the drums is called djembe from west Africa.

Favorite battle

Each student picked a war or a battle. We wrote about the battle and drew a picture of the battle. We had to draw and cut out pictures so we could make a pop up. By Joshua

Garden of Reading

Friday is the Garden of Reading deadline.  To attend the celebration on February 3rd, students must have read at least 10 of the Garden of Reading books.  Many students have qualified already from our classroom!  YAY !!

Report cards will be sent home on Thursday (tomorrow).  Please remember to sign the envelope and return the envelope and sticker card back to school.  Please return these items by Monday.

We will have a Social Studies test on Friday.  We filled out the study guide today in class.  The test is over Texas independence, which is a subject the students are quite interested in and enthusiastic about.  Ask your student how Santa Anna got discovered after he escaped from the Battle of San Jacinto!  It's a great little story.

Also, on Friday we will have a Math test on fractions.  We reviewed today in class and will do the same tomorrow.  They have some fraction homework today.  It would be a good idea to access the textbook online (pearsonsuccess.net) and practice at home as well.

4th grade will be hosting Chick-Fil-A night on February 2nd.  Please come out to support our grade level.  (monetary tips to our 4th grade jar are always appreciated!!)

Have a fabulous week!!

Happy New Year !!

Happy New Year!  I hope that 2012 will be happy, healthy, and prosperous for all of you.

I also hope that you all had a blessed and wonderful Christmas.  Mine actually was bittersweet.  My 92 year old grandfather passed away on his birthday on December 22nd.  He was an inspirational, generous, loving man.  He absolutely will be dearly missed by my family and his friends, but mostly by my grandmother.  They shared 72 years together...amazing and oh so sweet!  One of my cousins and her small kids were staying at my grandparents house so Santa could visit them there.  So, my mom, Meredith and I had Christmas morning in a hotel room in Shreveport, LA...not very merry, but we were happy to be together.  At the funeral, we did get to see many extended family members and old friends of my grandparents, which was nice.

I am hoping that one of my little darlings has the Wild Times at the Bed and Biscuit book buried in their desk or backpack.  The library called with a "You have a very overdue book out..." message.  I know it is not on our table in the classroom because I would have grabbed it on my way out for the break.  Please check your child's backpack for the book.

Also, please remember to send your child to school on Tuesday with some new crayons and color pencils.

Speaking of Tuesday, I will be out Tuesday morning to attend a funeral.  Please tell your child that I will be at school at 11:30.  I feel really bad to miss part of the first day that we come back, but I need to show comfort and support to the family of a former student.

I have enjoyed this time off (you know I looooove sleeping in!!), but have really missed my sweet kids and look forward to seeing them on Tuesday.
